The Reverend David G. DeVries is minister of the Amity Reformed Church in Vischer Ferry, NY. He graduated from Hope College in Holland, Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree and also attended Western Theological Seminary (also in Holland, Michigan) where he graduated in 1976 with a Master of Divinity degree. This included a one year internship (74-75) at the Bayshore Gardens Reformed Church in Bradenton, Florida.
 
David's first charge was to the Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo, Iowa; where he was elected Vice President of the city's Ministerial Association. Following this, David served as a Military Chaplain at Fort Benning, Georgia from 1973-83, was assigned as a battalion chaplain to the First Infantry Training Brigade and later to the 197th Infantry Brigade. David was in the US Army Reserves for 10 years; during that time he was a Hospital Chaplain at Noble Army Hospital (Fort McClellan), Walson Army Hospital (Fort Dix) and Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
 
Pastor DeVries ministered at the Pine Grove Reformed Church in Muskegon, Michigan from 1983-88. While there he was planner, coordinator and participant in evening Easter services held for the city. He also led worship services at a Community Health Center for the mentally disabled. Following his work in Muskegon, he enrolled in a one year residency program of Clinical Pastoral Education held at Pine Rest Christian Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Pastor Dave began his work as minister of the Amity Reformed Church in December 1989. While at Amity he has serves as a volunteer Night Chaplain at Ellis Hospital, and as a board member to the Shenendehowa Senior Center where he is Chairman of the Personnel Committee. He has also held various committee positions in the denomination's district level operations.
 
David enjoys preaching, teaching Sunday School, leading the weekly prayer group and sharing in church activities. He especially enjoys involvement with church members and visiting shutins. His outside interests include reading, watching Masterpiece Theatre, ice skating, and being an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens hockey club and All Backs Rugby team. He also likes listening to blue grass, folk, jazz and blues music. He has two English Shepherd dogs that he loves to play with and he relaxes by taking them on walks along the river.
 
Family  
 
David spent his childhood growing up in Friesland, Wisconsin, a small farming community where his mother still resides. Each summer he and his wife Debbie return to visit all of the relatives and enjoy that good Wisconsin cheese and corn on the cob. His family includes, wife Debbie, and four sons: Dallas, Derek, Dion, and Daron. The picture to the left is of the family and David's parents, Art (deceased) and Lillian DeVries.
