Merlin (Virginia)
Merlin (Virginia) What can I say about this wonderful dog who is waiting patiently for
the perfect forever home to take him in? Merlin recently lost his mistress
and is sharing his grief with a family member, but he is not sure what comes
next and is hoping that a family who recognizes his physical need to exercise
and have a job to do will come along and realize that he is the perfect dog
to fill an open spot in their home. He is super with other dogs, and
currently spends his days with a lovely little Bassett Hound. Because Merlin
has not regularly been with smaller children, we recommend teens and older in
his new home. Preference will be given to those who are familiar with herding
breeds and who will use only positive reinforcement to help Merlin overcome
any problems he may have adapting to a new home. Either a farm-type
environment or a large fenced-in yard is required. Apply online to adopt.

Winkel (West Virginia)
Winkel (West Virginia) is a beautiful 2 year old Australian Shepherd mix
who was brought to the shelter on July 30, 2008 as a stray and is now
available for adoption. She is very friendly, gentle, lovable, and likes
sitting next to you when you are petting her. She needs some additional leash
training, but we feel that won't take very long. Winkel is deaf and is blind
in one eye. She can see very well out of her good eye, which is bright blue.
Winkel will need to be an indoor dog and will need a fenced in area when she
goes out to potty. She cannot hear, so therefore, she could easily be hit by
a car. Winkel will need spayed upon adopted. She has a medium coat, short
tail and weighs about 35 lbs. 8-12-08.

Mark
(Virginia)
Mark (Virginia) is a
handsome and somewhat unusual looking dog! Mark has arrived at the shelter
and is still adjusting to being in a kennel. We are going to have a vet come
see him but we think he can see shadows and he does partially hear. The
pictures don't show it, but he has beautiful blue eyes. Mark come s right to
the kennel gates to greet you and become friends. Mark is available for
adoption on July 3rd but needs a rescue or a home that understands special
needs dogs He is very gentle and laid back. Extra ordinary looking! Mark is
what is known as a "Lethal White Aussie". He may be slightly
hearing & sight impaired. He is gorgeous and very friendly. Young adult.

Ollie
(New York)
Ollie (New York) was rescued from a high kill shelter in TN. He was to be the next
dog put down because of space so he was pulled and transported to Upstate New
York where he lives with his foster Mom and Dad and 2 Border Collie brothers
and one cat sister. He is about a year old UTD on shots, neutered,
housebroken, crate trained and learning new things every day. He is very
smart and embraces every quality of the Aussie breed. He is high energy and
has an amazing sense of self. He is not scared of a single thing (including
the vacuum). He loves the water, belly rubs, snow and watching cars pass by
the house out of the front window. If you let him, he will sit down right
outside the bathtub while you are taking a shower and peek his head in and
bite at the water as it comes down. He has become the house shadow and
follows anything that moves. Though he does have a mind of his own he is a
very fast learner and aims to please. Because he is high intensity Ollie
would do best in a home with older children (he loves kids but can be a
little rough when playing)! He gets along fine with cats as long as the cat
is dog savvy and can stick up for itself. An adoption application (including
personal and vet references) is required along with a fenced yard. He would
prefer to be in a home with other dogs because he really craves interaction.
Ollie is being fostered in Upstate New York – about an hour north of

Jazz
(Virginia)
Jazz (Virginia) is an eight year old spayed female Australian Shepherd who acts half
her age with an attitude of a teenager. You know, like, "Its all about
me!” She has a true Aussie temperament and will chase and nip at your feet
when you ride your 4-wheeler or bicycle; views other dogs as competition for
her owner's affection, and cats?...who needs them! Jazz will provide loving
companionship for her owners and is used to living with small children. She
would love a fenced in yard where she will be safe and have room to exercise.
She likes for you to throw a ball or toy but that is just a sign for her to
run. Jazz is housebroken and wants to stay inside where she can be close to
her owner.
