during his three years of service, doing duty in every battle in
which his regiment was engaged. At the Battle of Gettysburg he was
wounded through the thigh, July 2, 1863. He was named First
Lieutenant of Company H on September 14, 1864 and Captain of

Service and settled in Richmond, VA, where became widely known and
much respected. He soon became very popular in business and social
relations. He was a man of very brilliant talents, a popular
speaker and a poet of much merit; he was also prominent as a

he delivered the address at Oakwood cemetery which was replete
with tender feelings and patriotism.
He died
suddenly of apoplexy, July 20, 1880. The Richmond Dispatch said of
him: "Genial, warm-hearted, sympathetic, all who came within

political opinions - ever had more numerous or more sincere
friends among all classes of the community."

Ordway lists all the children of Benjamin Stanley Bohonon as
"by the first marriage." However, since Maria died
in 1842 and Benjamin remarried in 1845, it is only logical
that the twins, Alfred and Albert born in 1846, were by the
second marriage (to Abigail Barker) and I have assigned them
accordingly. - RA.
