In addition to the coin banks and other toys mentioned elsewhere on this site, Uncle Sam has made many appearances in "kids' media," such as cartoons and comic books.

Cartoons Sam is no stranger to Saturday-morning cartoons. Left: A recent appearance on Dexter's Laboratory. Below: an early appearance in the Warner Brothers cartoon, "Old Glory."
|
| Dexter's Laboratory sometimes features the Justice Friends, an amusing parody of Marvel Comics super-heroes. In the Justice Friends cartoon, "Say Uncle Sam," the high-strung Sam learns how to "chill." | Uncle Sam explains the Pledge of Allegiance to young Porky Pig. "The land of the free... Do you know what that means, Porky?" Porky shakes his head. "I thought so. I'm afraid there are a lot of us who don't appreciate our freedom..." The cartoon ends with Porky proudly reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. |

Wacky Packages If you were a kid in the 60's or 70's, you probably remember Wacky Packages -- the cards/stickers that made fun of everyday products. Sam was featured on the Commie Cleanser Wacky Pack. "Gets rid of Reds, Pinkos, Hippies, Yippies and Flippies!" Thanks to the folks at the Wacky Packs web site for providing the Commie
Cleanser picture. For more pictures of Wacky Packs, visit: |

Uncle Sam, Superhero! DC Comics made Uncle Sam a superhero, featured in comic books such as the Freedom Fighters and the All Star Squadron. The picture at the left shows cover artwork from Freedom Fighters issue #1. Of course, every superhero has a weakness. Sam's weakness is that he can only act in accordance with the will of the American people. And every superhero has a tag line as well; Sam's is "TARNATION!" |
