Eamonn McGirr was born in Derry, Northern
Ireland.
He taught advanced Mathematics in Belfast before becoming a full-time Irish
entertainer.
With four chart successes under his belt (one of them "Up Went
Nelson" sitting in the number one slot for six weeks) he eventually
came to America with his wife and daughter twenty years ago.
******
In
January, 1996, Eamonn broke the World Record for Non-stop Singing and sang
for a total of 11 days 20 minutes.
This world record will undoubtedly stand unbroken for many a day.
His efforts brought in thousands of dollars for the Center for the Disabled in
Albany.
It was not only featured constantly on local television, but also went national
and international on the "Today Show" and "Inside
Edition".
******
Then
tragedy struck.
In November 1996, just over nine short months after the world record Eamonn
himself became permanently disabled after a terrible fall and is now
quadriplegic.
After a long & courageous fight, Eamonn passed away on Monday, June 14th, 2004. However, his tremendous spirit lives on.
Be not sorrowful when I die,
I
have fought a hard, bitter battle.
The peace of rest is mine,
Earned through pain & suffering.
Be not sad,
For the prize of peace is finally mine.
