Falun Dafa, also known as
Falun Gong, is most accurately described as a "cultivation practice." Cultivation
with Falun Dafa refers to the improvement of
one's heart and mind through the careful study of the universal
principle of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance (or
Tolerance). Practice means meditating and exercising to purify and
energize the body. "Falun" refers to "Law Wheel," "Dafa" refers to
"Great Way," and "Falun Dafa" translates to "The Great Cultivation
Practice Way of Law Wheel."
Falun Dafa's effectiveness in
improving health and its profound principles have quickly made the
practice immensely popular throughout the entire world. Since its introduction
to the public in 1992 by its founder, Master Li Hongzhi, Falun Dafa
has grown to become the most popular form of qigong
ever in Chinese history and has attracted tens of millions of people
from all walks of life in more than 60 countries. Falun Dafa
distinguishes itself from other qigong
practices by emphasizing cultivation of one's moral character in
daily life according to essential principles of Truthfulness,
Compassion, Forbearance, as taught by Mr. Li. Many other
practices focus only on health and fitness.
The practice of
Falun Dafa is simple, yet profound and effective. Primarily, it
consists of two components: self-improvement through studying Mr.
Li's teachings, and performing Falun Dafa's five gentle
exercises. The exercises, which include a meditation, are easy to
learn, enjoyable, and at the same time both relaxing and energizing.
The teachings are articulated in two books,
Zhuan Falun (Turning the Law Wheel) and Falun Gong (Law Wheel Qigong, for beginners), which are available in
more than a dozen languages, including English. The books can be
found at bookstores such as Borders, or online bookstores such as
Yih Chyun Corp or
http://www.amazon.com, and are even available for free download from
http://www.falundafa.org.
The
people who practice Falun Dafa come from every imaginable walk of
life, as Falun Dafa transcends cultural, social, economic, and
national boundaries. Through practicing the principle, together with the exercises,
practitioners are able to achieve physical health, mental balance, inner peace and
spiritual purity. The practice has spread largely by word
of mouth, as those who learn it usually find
the benefits simply too good to keep to themselves.
