Your essay "Forgotten Graves" was so beautifully written it made me cry. I hope someday we can do a memorial to the men from the Berne area who died in the Civil War. Ideally it would list them all, with stars by those who died as a result of the war. A reproduction monument based on the tombstone for Jesse Wood would be large enough for all of their names.

Thanks for all of the work you are doing recording and remembering our ancestors who served in the Civil War.

I loved the entry on the men spending Christmas alone. I also spend Christmas alone, though not with anyone else around. To make it special I share it in unusual ways. Gather greenery all year & decorate graves of older people that have no family left to tend the graves; save postage from my book sales to give to Feed the Children; buy 10 chicks for Heifer.org; and save one day to go out and help others. Maybe open a door for someone that has hands full, or to talk with someone that looks frazzled, or reach a box for someone having trouble getting it. Not much, just things that make me feel more connected.

Iam impressed with your web site. I like your idea. The thing I like the best is that there is no pressure here to perform.
