Differences between the PDF version and the Shipped version of the Instructions
Yes that is a windshield banner rolled up. My anti-rice sentiments lean
against it, but I don't know if I can resist!
Step Numbers
Most of the step numbers differ slightly due to:
-
Single steps being broken down into multiple steps.
-
Multiple steps being combined into one.
-
Un-numbered warnings in PDF get step numbers in shipped version.
Illustrations
The illustrations are the same, but the are numbered differently because
#4 in the PDF (which actually appears after #8) is #2 in the shipped version
and appears much earlier in the instructions.
Differences Worth Noting
There are some differences worth noting. Most Step #'s refer to the
numbers in the PDF.
-
JR's warning about the install being only for "Competent Mechanics" is
toned down in the shipped version. Maybe they thought they were scaring
people away from performing it themselves.
-
Step #12, the lines starting with "*On 94-95" and with "*On 96-98" in the
PDF are deleted from the shipped version. I don't know why.
-
Step #16 in the PDF is Step #13 in the shipped version.
-
Step #15 in the PDF is split into Steps #16 and #17 in the shipped version.
-
Step #23 has its' last sentence, starting with "One will be", deleted from
the shipped version. I don't know why.
-
Step #28-32 become Step #57-60 in the shipped version.
-
Step #64 has its' last sentence, starting with "Remove the pilot", deleted
from the shipped version.
-
Step #74 gets more detailed as Step #77 in the shipped version.
-
Step #79 talks about using the "original upper throttle body mounting bolt"
for the alternator upper stabilizer bracket. The shipped instructions,
Step #82, say a new bolt is supplied.
-
Steps #79 and #81 are combined into Step #82 in the shipped version.
-
Step #82 gets more detailed as Step #84 in the shipped version.
-
Step #99 has its' last two sentences, starting with "Do not overtighten",
deleted. I guess people followed that advice too much and these plugs were
falling out on people!
-
Step #103 has "5/16" replaced by "3/8" every where it appeared. (Step #107
in shipped version).
-
Step #114 talks about using "four 12mm bolts supplied by the kit". The
shipped instructions, Step #117, talk about using "two new bolts and two
original bolts".
-
Step #117 gets more detailed as Step #120 in the shipped version.
-
Step #122 has its' last sentence, starting with "On 96-98 models", deleted
from the shipped version. I don't know why.
-
Step #129 is split into Steps #132-133 in the shipped version.
-
Step #130 gets more detailed as Step #134 in the shipped version.
-
Step #137 has its' first two sentences, talking about removing the plastic
sheathe from around the fuel injection wiring harness, deleted from the
shipped version. Apparently you don't have to remove this.
-
Step #144 is worded differently and provides more details as Step #148
in the shipped version.
-
Step #154 is added... Adjust the Timing!
A word about the parts list in the instructions.
Many of the assemblies, even though they are listed part by part and
screw by screw on the parts list, are fully assembled already.
