4-CAMERA
SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM WITH INFRARED ILLUMINATORS
This
is probably our most important investigative tool. This system
allows us to remotely view, in total darkness, four separate areas
simultaneously. By feeding the video into a Digital Video Recorder, we
are able to make a permanent and re-viewable record of all events that
occurred within the field of each of the four, “fixed” cameras during
the time of the investigation. Since the fixed cameras (with infrared
illuminators) are placed in locations where paranormal activity has been
previously reported and surveillance is continuous, the
likelihood is increased that any paranormal activity that occurs during
the investigation hours will be recorded on video.

DIGITAL VIDEO CAMCORDERS WITH
INFRARED NIGHT VISION
|
|
|
These
are used much like the surveillance system. However, because they are
portable, they can quickly be moved about the premises in response to
any unplanned-for incidents at locations not under fixed camera
surveillance. |

AUDIO
RECORDERS
Several types of audio recording devices are used during investigations
to record any paranormal sounds or EVP: Each camera on the surveillance
system is equipped with a microphone that can pick up sounds from the
field of vision. Secondly, the infrared digital camcorders are equipped
with microphones. Lastly, hand held digital recorders are used by team
members.
The use of multiple
devices for audio and video capture in the same locations on an
investigation builds in a degree of “redundancy” into investigations
that often allows us to cross- reference an anomaly from different
perspectives.

DUAL CAMERAS
Digital and film cameras are used throughout an investigation. At the
beginning of an investigation (interview stage), photographs are taken
of the premises to document locations where paranormal activity has been
reported. These photographs are then used to develop a floor plan of the
building indicating where surveillance cameras and/or team members
should be stationed during the actual investigation. Photos are also
taken during the investigation for later analysis.
The dual camera system that we’ve recently started using is pictured to
the right. This system allows us to simultaneously take two photos of
the same location. Taking simultaneous “shots” allow us to rule out
“dust orbs” and other camera or film defects. (If an orb or anomaly
appears at the same place in both photos, we can reasonably conclude
that the orb/anomaly is not caused by dust floating near the camera lens
or by a camera/ film defect.)

THERMOMETERS
Thermometers are used to scan for areas where there are significant,
unexplained, temperature divergences. Thermometers are also used to
validate an investigator’s subjective perception of “cold” or “hot”
spots.

|
GAUSS METERS
OR ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD DETECTORS
EMF
detectors are used to determine if there are any unusual
electromagnetic fields in the premises. Paranormal activity is
frequently reported in areas where unusually high EMF readings are
obtained or where sudden unexplained increases occur. EMF readings are
also helpful to validate subjective perceptions made by investigators or
witnesses to paranormal activity.

COMPUTER
While not usually
used during an investigation, it is indispensable for the
post-investigation analysis of data. The computer is used to run various
programs for analyzing any audio, video or photographic evidence
obtained during the investigation.
