ELECTRONIC VOICE PHENOMENA 1 Please note: Because of the poor audio quality of most EVP, it is recommended that one listens with either good quality speakers or headphones. Sometimes EVP have an almost whimsical nature. Take the next EVP for example. The response of “testing” is not altogether unexpected of someone testing out a microphone for the first time. But, does it have any relation to the events that occurred at the site? “Testing” 2 This EVP was obtained at an accident site where two people died in what a NY State Trooper described as ”…the worst accident [he had] seen in 14 years.” The site is located just off Rte 9 in lower Rensselaer County, NY. Shortly after the investigator’s electronic field meter registered a spike, the investigator said, “oh wait, is someone there? If so, please talk.” A response came in a robotic-sounding voice: “testing”. “Twenty eight” 2 A second visit was made to this accident site. You will hear the investigator say “…tell me what you’re doing here…how old you are.” Shortly thereafter, there is a faint EVP whisper, “twenty eight”. “Thanks for taping” 2 This EVP was obtained at a rural cemetery in Columbia County, NY while an investigator was reading headstones. In the background and somewhat over the beginning of the investigator’s headstone-reading ”…son Arthur Barrett, 1859 to 1902”, you can hear what sounds like “Thanks for taping”.

“Electronic Voice Phenomena is a
process whereby the voice or voices of the dead are embedded onto
magnetic recording tape by a process that we do not understand. The
embedded “ghost” voice can be heard when the magnetic audio tape is
played back on a tape recorder/player or with a digital recorder. Ghost
voices are clear and do not sound like static, but some voices are weak
and found at the noise level.” Dave Oester,
