Imagine . . . a race of beings, possessed of one mind. Driven . .. by one will. Intent . . . on one purpose. To seize our past . . . and control our future. Now, one captain, against orders . . . must succeed where all others have failed.

On November 22 1996, Resistance is Futile!

The new movie was released November 22, 1996. The Enterprise-E chased the Borg back in time to the Earth's first contact with aliens as the Borg tried to prevent the beginning of the Federation and assimilate the Earth.

The characters included Barclay, Zefram Cochrane, and a greusome Borg Queen. The two Borg trying to strangle the holographic doctor (Well, if Voyager can have one, why can't the Enterprise?) was very amusing. This was one killer of a movie!! My only real gripe was that the music was a little bit too light and cheery for the plot. A darker and louder score for the first 20 minutes would have worked a lot better.

As for the Next-Gen crew, Dr. Crusher (with blonde hair) and Counselor Troi had minimal parts (it was worth the ticket price just to see Deanna get so drunk that Riker had to keep her off the floor). Picard had to deal with resurfacing memories of being Locutus. Data still had emotions and was secuced by the Borg Queen with human flesh. Geordi sported his new eyes (mechanical irises and all), but didn't have a large role in the film. Worf was grabbed off the Defiant during the opening battle with the Borg (for those of you wondering how Worf would get into the film). And Commander Riker spent the film trying to convince Oswald Cochrane to launch the Pheonix (the first warp vessel). If you really want to spoil the mystery, read the synopsis.

USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E from ST-VIII "First Contact"

So, what about the Enterprise-E (see the picture above and cut-away below)? From all outward appearances, they merged the engine style of the Enterprise A (check the nacelle positions and length) with the size and smoothness of the Enterprise D (look at the saucer, this ship may be even BIGGER than Enterprise D). The bottom half of the secondary hull appears to be a very large Excelcior hull with an orange glowing deflector dish. (I think that the crew at Paramount probably modified the Excelcior model to produce the Enterprise-E! Hey, that's how they made the Enterprise-B!!)

There are style points from the Voyager thrown in for good measure, too. The saucer is long (like Voyager) instead of wide (like the Enterprise D), there isn't a "neck" between the primary and secondary hulls and the top of the secondary hull tapers to the shuttlebay.

It's actual size is over 700 meters long, but there is some confusion as to how many decks it has. In one scene, Picard says that it has 24 decks. In a different scene, a security officer states that there are 26 decks. In comparison, the Enterprise-D was 641 meters long and had 42 decks.

The uniforms have changed for the crew of this Sovereign class Enterprise. They are modified Voyager uniforms with a grey top (instead of red, blue, or gold) and a strip of colored fabric around the wrists. The undershirts are red, blue, and gold with a zipper down the front instead of just being purple.

The NEW preview trailer for the movie is out! The music is from ST-TMP, ST-III, ST-VI, and the Next-Gen intro. You get to see the new ship, Picard call Worf a coward, the Borg queen, and Locutus from the MOVIE!!! It is an 5 meg file in QuickTime format, so it will take you between 30 and 45 minutes to download, but its well worth it!

The old preview is also available. There are scenes from TNG-TBOBW, DS9-Emissary, and ST-Generations in the trailer because they were not finished filming the special effects for movie. You do get to see the new uniforms and the Borg-ified Trek Logo, though. The preview's music is from ST-VI, TBOBW, and the Next-Gen intro. This is the same preview that comes with the videotape of "Mission Impossible."
