Smith, born in Groton, Conn. baptized Nov. 5, 1721, married July 9, 1747, Mary Davis. He was a farmer. He moved to Canaan, N.Y. in 1780 where he had 600 acres of land granted by King George. He died Feb 2, 1807. His wife Mary died Feb. 15, 1826. They are buried in the old Castle Burying Ground at Canaan, 2 miles East of Red Rock near Daniel Jones' residence.
