Cocoon-outside of cape |
Butterfly-inside of cape |
Detail | |
When I was asked to do a garment for the 2003 Bernina Fashion Show, I had this garment already planned. The outside of the cape is brown velvet that is tucked and tacked to create texture. With the model wrapped tightly in it, she is the cocoon that is ready to break out. Opening the cape, she becomes a beautiful butterfly, shining with silk fabrics, metal threads, holographic film and marbelized fabric. The skirt, blouse, vest and hat are black fabric with silver lines and black beads. The arms of the model go through the vest and between the cocoon and the butterfly so she becomes the body of the butterfly. |
