Sample Schedule of the 1-2-3 Program

1^st– 2^nd  Weeks

• Chairperson appointed
• Committee chosen
• Committee meets, decides upon foundational statement, basic timetable and kickoff plans

3^rd  Week

• Chairperson meets with clergy to explain basics of program and obtain buy-in and endorsement
• (Chairperson may also give a presentation to Board of Directors)

4^th  Week

• Chairperson and/or committee member writes or re-writes basic materials

5^th  Week

• Announcement in bulletin/newsletter about the upcoming global warming initiative

6^th  Week

• Committee and/or congregational staff put together mailing to every household in the congregation. This includes the Questions & Answers (blue sheet), 1-2-3 Pledge Form (orange sheet), Easy Reference Sheet (white sheet) and a return envelope to send pledges in. The mailing may also include an announcement of the kickoff.
• Announcement/Global Warming blurb in bulletin
• Clergy announces 1-2-3 program from the pulpit, asking for support

7^th  Week

• Chairperson speaks from the pulpit, asking for support
• Announcement/Global Warming blurb in bulletin
• Kickoff – pledge forms handed out
• Collection of pledges returned by mail (and every week after)
• Compact Fluorescent Light bulb (CFL) demonstration at coffee hour starts; 1-2-3 pledge forms available there
• Pledge forms given to all attendees at service(s), collected after service

8^th  Week

• Announcement/Global Warming blurb in bulletin
• Clergy announces support again from pulpit
• CFL demonstration; pledge forms available
• Pledge forms given to everyone before the service(s) that hadn’t received one the previous week. Again, they are collected after the service.

9^th Week

• Announcement/Global Warming blurb in bulletin
• CFL demonstration; pledge forms available

10^th  Week and 2-6 weeks more, depending upon size of congregation and response

• Weekly blurbs in bulletin, each announcing the number of households that have signed the 1-2-3 pledge and pounds reduction in carbon dioxide
• Article in newsletter about the program
• CFL demonstration; pledge forms available

Final Week

• Announcement of final results in Bulletin
• Thank you to all households participating in the program distributed at service(s) (green sheet)
• Clergy and Chairperson publicly thank all who participated
• Further Individual Action Tips (canary sheet) distributed at service(s) or mailed to all households in the congregation

Follow-up

• Committee meets as needed to evaluate program
