Habitat for HumanityPartnership between Raquette Valley Habitat for Humanity, Community
Energy Services, Inc., and NYSERDA Energy Features:
Cost: What does a home really cost? In addition to initial costs, heating and maintenance over the years should be considered. In the North Country, heating is a high percentage of a home's cost. This home is designed to be low-cost up front and low-cost over the years. The total cost of materials for this North Country home (counting donated materials at market price) was approximately $35,000. Annual energy costs for heating, hot water, lighting and appliances will be under $1,000, compared with approximately $2,000 for a similarly sized energy code compliant home. NOTE: The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority's (NYSERDA) Energy Audit Program offers audits for a small fee that is refundable if audit-recommended measures are implemented.
