Test Pictures

This is a crop of a picture one of my students took. The original was 2400X3000 pixels. The crop is very “blotchy” when viewed at 100%. This is just fine for seeing the variety of grays in the picture, as subtle gradations are hard to distinguish. I’ve used it because I feel I have to be able to distinguish these variations easily. There exists a black and a white box as well as gray bands. The broad bands are sort of like corduroy pants and you should see the faint striations in them. I don’t understand why these pictures can’t be easily rightclicked and saved. The entire page CAN be selected and copied and pasted into MS Word. Right click and edit the picture there if you want ot use the eyedropper tool.

This image is much more subtle. I have an older 21” Iiyama Pro 502 that I use as my primary monitor on my main machine. I have a 19” Compaq S910 as a secondary monitor. With it, and in the controlled lighting of my computer room, I can just barely see the delineation between 1 and 1a and between 2 and 2a areas. I suspect that newer graphics monitors can do this with more ease but I doubt that most solutions allow us to perceive these distinctions. Don’t diminish the value of a softly lit room…not dimly lit. I can read a book in my computer room. Glare is a huge issue in seeing subtleties even when reflections are well controlled on a monitor screen.
