Welcome to my review of Army of Darkness. This movie has been around for a while, but I still think it is worth a review. For those of you who don't know, AOD is the sequel to the two great Movies: Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. This page will not just give a review of AOD, but the Evil Dead series as well. I suggest renting and watching the all.

I think this movie was described best by Len Kaminski & Scott Benson who said "Sam Raimi has an uncanny knack for doing something widely considered all but impossible: taking the weariest, most over-exploited film clichés and bashing you over the head with them until you are firmly and sincerely convinced that you've never seen them before in your life."

The movie starts with our five college kids going to a cabin in the woods out in the middle of nowhere. The GREAT Bruce Campbell plays Ash, who seems to the the unofficial spokesman for the group. With him is his girlfriend Linda, his sister Shelly, his friend Scott, and Scott's Girlfriend, Cheryl. Soon into the movie, Ash and Scott begin to explore the fruit cellar where they find an odd looking dagger, book, and tape recorder. They bring them upstairs and begin listening to it. It seems the person who owned the cabin began translating and recording candarian resurrection spells from the book, the Necronomicon Exmortis (book of the dead,) and by playing the tape, the kids awoke candarian spirits. Right away, the spirits possess the trees. And the kids have no idea anything that anything unusual is happening. Only Shelly has some suspicions.

Later that night, Shelly hears a noise from outside her window and goes out to check. She ends up in the woods, where the trees begin to attack her (in a scene with Sam Raimi later says he would rather have left out.) Bruised and cut, Shelly returns to the cabin and convinces Ash to drive he back into town. They find that the bridge leading across the ravine has been ripped up beyond anything humanly possible and they are forced to go back. Soon, the spirit takes control of Shelly (it seems an open wound is the only way the spirits can enter the body) and one by one begin taking out all the other kids. Scott leaves in search of a "path" around the ravine, but is attacked by the trees. He later turns up in the cabin, possessed like the others. Alone and confused, Ash picks up various weapons, a chainsaw, shotgun, and the dagger, and begins making zombie cole-slaw. For the end of the movie: WATCH IT!

This movie picks up right before the last movie ends. To help those people who haven't seen the first one, it includes a 5 minute or so re-cap of the first Evil Dead. Only minus Shelly, Scott, and Cheryl. Ash realizes that the spirits can only come out during the night, so he stays in the cabin waiting until morning. Sometime during the night, he hears something outside. He looks out the door to find the body of Linda crawl out of her grave and dance around. Soon, her decapitated head manages to bite Ash's hand and he has to use a vice and chainsaw to get it off. Back inside, Ash's hand begins to crack and it seems that a spirit has taken control or it via the wound left by Linda's head's bite. The hand begins to grab various dishes and wack Ash over the head with them. Grabbing the near-by chainsaw, he cuts off his demented hand.

The screen then switches over to an airport. You see two new characters. The daughter of the man who owns the cabin, Annie, and her partner. The two start on thier way to the cabin when they reach the torn up bridge and two other people; Jake, the man that's putting up the "bridge out" sign, and his girlfriend, Bobbi-Jo. The four begin making thier way to the cabin via the secret path. Meanwhile, Ash is inside the cabin trying to shoot down his hand which has begun running amok. Upon reaching the cabin and seeing the bloody chainsaw, Annie thinks Ash murdered her father and they manage to throw him in the basement. The four play the recorder and find out that her father had released the spirits. They also learn that her mother had been posessed and buried in the fruit cellar. As if on cue, her mom breaks out of the ground and attacks Ash. Convinced, the others let him out.

While trying to figure everything out, Annie partner get's possessed, and Bobbi-Jo, who is freaked out by the whole things, runs intor the woods. Although Annie determines the only way to stop the evil is to read a special passage from the book, Jake, in an attempt to find his girlfriend, tosses the pages into the cellar and forces everyone into the woods to find Bobbi-Jo. Jake is soon zombie-chow, and Annie and Ash make plans to get the pages. The head out to the toolshed where they attach the chainsaw to Ash's wrist. Ash manages to go into the cellar and get the pages, but while Annie is reading them, the trees begin attacking the house. The passages end up opening a vortex that sucks the evil away. unfortunately, Annie dies (at the hands of the hand) before she can close the vortex and that pulls Ash, his car, and a few trees in. They fall out of the sky in the past.

This movie picks up where Evil Dead 2 left off. Ash falls out of the sky and is discovered by an army of knights. The wiseman soon realizes that Ash is "The prophised one" who has fallen from the Heavens to deliver them from the terror of the deadites. They convice Ash to head into the graveyard to retrieve the Necronomicon because there are passages in it that will allow them to vanquish the evil and send Ash home. They tell Ash that he must say the words "Klatu Barata Nikto" as he removes the book from it's stand. On his way to the graveyard, he enters a windmill and manages to unleash a new evil demon. An Ash doppleganger. Shooting bad Ash in the face and then cutting him up and burying him, he leaves for the book. Upon finding it, he messes up the words, and that causes the deadites to come to the castle to get it. Ash, taking command of the knights, prepares for the imminent battle between the deadites, who are being led by bad Ash. For the finale, watch the movie!
