Finding Waldo  Photo, Ed Stelmaszyk ©

Lost in Galway, Ireland.

While living in the UK, I decided to visit my brother and a friend, Paul Hartman, who would be vacationing in Ireland. They were to fly to Shannon on the West Coast on a Friday. Of course we never actually made specific plans but thought meeting in Ireland would be fun.

I never did get around to contacting them before they left and decided that Saturday morning to find them in Ireland. I flew to Shannon and arrived at 7am and began my search not knowing anything except where they were the day before. No surprise but I couldn’t find them anywhere that morning and decided to drive around Ireland (stupid American in “small” country). Discovered (again, stupid American) Galway, a wonderful place with a town square filled with pubs. Walked around visiting several establishments each time explaining my silly story of looking for my brother but not knowing where in the country to look. At noon, decided to be adventurous and visit the pubs on the other side of the square and as I walked below the clock tower I realized that this would be a great place in the future to agree to meet. At that moment, my brother Ed, and Paul appear walking toward the clock tower with the same idea.

We thought this “Finding Waldo” image was an appropriate reminder of the trip.
