MY NEW MEXICO JOURNEY

I recently had the pleasure of attending a class at the Santa Fe Workshops, The New Mexico Journey with Jennifer Moller. The next several pages will lead you through a photo essay of the journey. While much of the work is very different than the landscapes I typically work with, I hope that you find something you like.

About an hour Northeast of Santa Fe lies the small town of Las Vegas, New Mexico. As with many small towns in rural America, Las Vegas enjoyed a grand past of industry and commerce brought, in part, by the railroad. The decline of the railroad has brought challenges to Las Vegas but the warmth of the people in this community brings hope.

LAS VEGAS

	One more sleepy morning in Las Vegas. We arrived in Las Vegas at dawn and this photo, with it's blue and violet light, captured the quiet and stillness of the town. Note: This photo may appear darker than intended on some screens - please increase your brightness!
	Contrast New Mexico is filled with natural beauty. I thought this picture of the beautiful blue skies contrasted against this dilapidated storefront illustrated all that is good and what is not in Las Vegas.

	Castaneda Hotel This composite photo is of the Castaneda Hotel, which sits along the railway tracks waiting for the people that used to arrive via rail.
	Waiting.

	Fedencio Urioste Old beyond his years.
	Town Square Spend five minutes in the Town Square of Las Vegas and you know that there is still life and a sense of community left in this town. People gather both in the square and and in the businesses surrounding it to talk with their neighbors, friends and the occasional stranger passing through.
