Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: I am not an alum.
Can I march with you?
A: Certainly! Anyone who wants to march
with us is welcome to do so, regardless of whether
or not you're an SU band alum!
You must, however, be an alum in order to serve
either on the Board of Directors or as an
officer.
- Q: What is your
uniform?
A: We wear blue SU Alumni Band golf shirts
(click
here to view).
Shirts can be purchased for $23.
(If you want your shirt mailed to you,
please also include $5 for shipping.)
If you do not have a band alumni golf shirt,
you may wear a navy blue golf shirt, T-shirt, or
sweatshirt. We do ask that you limit shirts to
anything Syracuse-related or to keep them neutral.
There are no guidelines for other articles of
clothing, although we recommend wearing jeans and
sneakers, and we do allow jackets for cold weather.
(This is Syracuse, after all!)
You may also (optionally) wear a hat; we recommend
either an orange or blue Syracuse-related baseball
cap, or something neutral.
- Q: I am not marching (or it's not
even close to Homecoming). Can I buy a
shirt?
A: Yes. Contact Ray Kim
to order a shirt.
- Q: When do you normally
rehearse?
A: We rehearse with the
Pride of
the Orange on Saturday before the game.
Saturday gameday rehearsals
tend to run from 7:30 to 8:30 am.
Unfortunately, SUMB has no control over the
rehearsal time; we are at the mercy of the
Athletic Department and Carrier Dome management.
For more up-to-date rehearsal information, view the
SUMB schedule
- Q: I'm too old to walk well,
much less march.
Can I still participate?
A: Yes! We want you to participate!
If you are unable to participate in on-field drill,
we will try to make arrangements for you
to stand on the sideline and play your horn.
- Q: Do you participate in any events
other than Homecoming?
A: At the moment, we only participate in
Homecoming. As we grow and become more
established, we will look into the idea of
additional events.
- Q: You haven't answered my question.
Whom can I contact?
A: Contact Alumni Band president
Ray Kim.
He will make every attempt to either answer your
question or at least point you in the right
direction!
