NOTES:  Samuel, a cooper by trade, came to New England aboard the “Nicholas”, which left London April 26, 1638, with 164 passengers, a crew of 48, 300 tons of goods and 20 cannon.
     Samuel settled first in Ipswich, which had been established by John Winthrop, Jr.  On 22 Aug 1639, Samuel was granted a home lot and one acre at the west end of town, six acres of planting ground beyond Muddy River and 10 acres elsewhere.  The following year, Samuel's wife died.
     In 1641, Samuel sold his Ipswich property to Francis Jordon for 17 pounds and moved to Connecticut. That year he married MARY BETTS, born in 1623 in Claydon, the daughter of John and Mary Betts, and who was living in Hartford with her widowed mother. Samuel and Mary then moved to Wethersfield, CT, where Samuel prospered.
     On April 9, 1649, he purchased a home lot of three acres, a barn and cellar on the east side of Broad Street, just north of Plain Lane. Later he purchased six additional home lots.
     On November 3, 1659, Samuel purchased from Nathaniel Dickinson three acres on the west side of Broad Street on the south side of Fletcher's Lane, extending to Wethersfield's Main Street. Dickinson sold out to move to Hadley with Elder Goodwin's party from Hartford. The property on Broad Street was home to the Boreman family for five generations.
