Notes: Nathan, born in 1753 in Cornwall, Connecticut,
was the fifth of eleven children. The prospects weren't too good for a
young man in that setup, so he moved west to Wilkes-Barre where he married
Betsy Weeks in 1763, when she was nineteen and he twenty.
When the Revolutionary War broke out
Nathan, Betsy, and baby Phineas returned to coastal Connecticut where Nathan
joined the militia, was wounded, and did not return to Wilkes-Barre until
after the war was over.

Notes: He was a charter member and helped
organize the Beta Chapter of Kappa Alpha at Williams. He was a trustee
of Lafayette College for 30 years, and the college considered moving
to Bloomsburg, PA at one time. He was instrumental in the founding of the
Classical School in Bloomsburg in 1839.
A year after leaving the Seminary (1838),
he assumed the duties of minister of the Presbyterian Church in Bloomsburg,
PA.
In 1871, Waller suffered a serious accident
while driving, and walked with the aid of crutches for the rest of his
life. He gave up the pastorate at this time after 33 years of service,
and devoted his talents to other pursuits.
He was a Republican candidate for Congress
in 1876, and although he lost, he ran 500 votes ahead of the Hayes ticket
in his district.
It was he who in 1881 founded and built the
branch of the railroad running along the Susquehanna River from Wilkes
Barre to Catawissa. This "North and West Branch Railroad Company" was later
bought by the Pennsylvania Railroad.
