Some accounts say that his parents were Francis WICKES and Willmot COFFIN of Devonshire, England, but this has never been substantiated. |
| Spouse: Elizabeth ?
Marr: bef 1640, Providence, Rhode Island |
Many accounts say Francis married Elizabeth LUTHER, but this has never been substantiated according to Clarence Almon Torrey and others. |
Children: Samuel (ca 1643-1698)
Joseph (1645-)
Elizabeth (bp. 1547-)
John (bp. 1647-ca 1699)

Daniel (-1695)
Notes: Followed Roger Williams to Providence, RI.
Was one of the signers of the Providence, RI Compact, dated 20 Aug 1637
(Weekes left his mark, since he couldn't write).
He probably came to New England as a
servant or apprentice of John Smith the miller, and resided with or worked
for him at Dorchester, MA. When John Smith joined Roger Williams,
he brought Francis Weeks with him. They helped Williams build the
first settlement on Ten Mile River, near the present Philipsdale, then
accompanied him in founding Providence.

*** Most accounts
say that Samuel married Elizabeth (Betsy) Ruddick, but Clarence
Almon Torrey points out:
"The will [of Henry Reddick] was lost or destroyed
many years ago, but there is a copy of the agreement of his heirs in Oyster
Bay Records (printed), vol. 1, pp. 88-89. His heirs were five daughters,
three of whom were married. They are named in the order of their births
and signed the agreement in the same order: Mary Hauxhurst, Hannah Weekes,
Elizabeth Weekes, Jane Readuck, and Sarah Rudick. Christopher Hawxhurst,
Samuell Weekes and Joseph Weekes signed in that order, indicating that
Samuel signed as the husband of Hannah and Joseph as the husband of Elizabeth
Weekes. In all previous accounts which have come to this writer's attention,
it is erroneously stated that Samuel married Elizabeth Reddough and that
Joseph married her sister Hannah."
