ABOUT US: CHER &
PETER, hosts of Tango in Albany, NY.
Pete and I will be moving to Delray Beach, Florida this summer (2007), where
I will eventually host lessons and Milongas. Please keep in touch by emailing
us at: tangoalbany@mac.com
My first encounter with Argentine Tango was back in
the Winter of 2000. I was taking ballroom lessons at the Fred Astaire Dance
Studio in Latham. I had attended Hernan Duque's Milonga in Great Barrington
and was very impressed by the sultry tempo of the music, as well as the dancing.
I took several workshops in Great Barrington, where I found the tango crowd
to be very friendly and helpful. After I met my husband, Peter, in May of
2001, he and I took privates with Hernan and Dario DaSilva. Dario had just
moved to the United States from Rosario, Argentina, and was teaching in Pittsfield.
By the following year, we were tiring of constantly traveling outside the
Albany area to learn tango. Pete was rebelling against the weekly or twice-weekly
trips to MASS for our lessons. We had met several other dancers from the Albany
area, who also traveled to MASS for the Milongas and lessons.
I decided to make a commitment to initiate a weekly tango class in Albany.
I discovered there was an opening on Wednesdays at The Big House and convinced
Dario to make the trip, beginning in October, 2002. In January, I also began
hosting a monthly Milonga at The Center for Nia & Yoga. Tango workshops
were initiated shortly thereafter.
We now have several Tango instructors teaching
in the Capital District area, including Dario DaSilva, Claire Vivo, and Johnny
Martinez.
Our Argentine Tango group has continued to grow and develop. Many of us continue
to travel to MASS for Tango, as well as to our Tango community in Woodstock,
NY. We have made many new friends, all of us submerging ourselves in the passionate
world of Tango.

"Those who are submerged in the passionate world of Tango share a code.
That is why we can speak about things that none else understand.
Who knows what an embrace is without dancing Tango?
Who could understand that passionate, silent, emotional, short relationship,
where secrets feelings are shared?
For them all.
For those who can be touched by the sound of the bandoneon.
For those who cannot avoid a deep breath when Pugliese stabs the air.
For those who know the ritual of the look, and the resigned love of each encounter.."
