THE FORD 5.4 LITER TRITON V-8 ENGINE IS A LEMON!

Fundamentally Opposed to Repairing Defects

If your vehicle came equipped with A.S.P.E.S. (Automatic Spark Plug Ejection System) and if your engine ejects a sparkplug, be prepared to get no assistance from the Ford Motor Corporation or your dealer.  Consumers who have had this problem typically shell out $ 2,000 - $ 3,000 for repairs.

To resolve this issue Ford needs to be made aware that their corporate arrogance will not be tolerated.  The consumer needs to make noise!  The data I have researched and compiled with respect to this engine indicates there is a problem with the aluminum cylinder heads.  Why should the consumer have to bear the burden of poor engineering?  The plug that ejected out of my engine caused the ignition coil to slam into the fuel rail.  If the fuel rail had been compromised I would have had an external combustion engine!  Gasoline spewing in a hot engine compartment is not good!  Ford has adopted their ‘no can do’ attitude because they are banking on consumer apathy.

The dealers will not go to bat for you because if Ford did implement some type of repair program, the dealer only gets a flat rate from Ford for performing the work.  It is much more profitable for the dealer to charge you their normal rate as opposed to what Ford would reimburse them for.

So here we are, twisting in the wind.  If this happens to you, you must take action!  Here is what I am doing;

q       Complain to your dealer and Ford Motor Company (800-392-3673) via phone calls and letters.

q       File a complaint with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).  This government organization tracks safety issues.  Complain to the Office of Defect Investigations.  My complaint number is #10118320.

q       Complain to your State Attorney General.  Documentation will be required, don’t worry the web is loaded with problems of this nature.  Complaint forms are available on line.  The Consumer Helpline number for New York State is 1-800-771-7755.

q       Tell as many people as you can about this problem!  Send me your sparkplug story!  Include vehicle data, repair costs and your Ford experience.  The more data I can compile the better.  My e-mail is: sparkplugeject@nycap.rr.com.

q       Put a lemon sign on your vehicle (if your wife will let you).

q       Contact the media.

q       Do not buy Ford products.
