It was Thursday, January 7, 1993 at approximately 2:30pm. Oddly, we both
remember it well. It was our first week as NYS Legislative Interns. We had just finished an orientation exercise in
which my housemate Brian (yes, the same Brian that was in the wedding) was in a group with
Melissa and her housemate Kim. When I met Brian after the exercise, he introduced me to my
wife-to-be. We shook hands, and nothing has been the same since.
All of the interns hung out together at receptions for the legislators, as well as after
hours, so we saw a lot of each other. After a couple months of the requisite flirting and
butterflies, (and after she got tired of me putzing around and being shy) Melissa snuck up
on me in my room after a night out together with all our friends at Gaspary's and kissed
me. That was it. Finally! A week later we decided it would be fun to jaunt off to Montreal
on a whim. Incidentally, that was the same March weekend of the Great Blizzard of '93 where 4+ feet of
beautiful snow left us "stranded" for days. Oh darn! And that was where we
fell in love.
