The reception at the magnificent Adelphi Hotel started off relatively quietly with
Duo Dolce playing beautifully in
the background during cocktail hour. When we arrived shortly before 6:00, the party was
already in full swing. I can't explain the feeling that overcame Melissa and I as we
walked through the doors of the old hotel to be greeted by the smiling faces of all our family and friends. It is truly a moment to rival all others of the night. Everyone looked to be
having such a good time. We were so proud.
As the cocktail hour wound down, the evening
heated up. The bridal party was announced and we along with them had our first dance as
husband and wife to Sting's "Fields of Gold", the same wonderful song that you
should hear playing in the background right now (if you're using Microsoft's Internet
Explorer). Next, my brother and best man, Adam, toasted me
and my new bride with his hallmark class and style. As the bridal party and their
significant others who
were seated at the head table were served dinner,
our DJ got the night started right. In fact, people hit the dance floor before the salads and didn't leave all night! My grandparents and Melissa's parents were able to once again celebrate their fiftieth and thirtieth
wedding anniversaries respectively, with our special dedication of the Anniversary Waltz
to them.
We, of course, met all the wedding requirements like cutting and feeding
the cake (No cake mashing involved!), tossing the bouquet, retrieving and tossing the garter, the father/daughter, mother/son dances, etc.,
but none of these things could slow the night down. As usual, our good friend
"Conga" Frank Cassino took the
conga line concept to a whole new level, leading nearly every guest we had through the bar
(that is, BEHIND the bar), outside, and on just a general intoxicated rampage.
Everyone danced and
danced, including
my lovely bride who could always be found in one of two places all night, the bathroom or
the dance floor! She wasn't the only one grooving... check
out Stephen and Claire, and Tracey and
Meredith! Even my Mom got into the act once the
Macarena came on, but then again, so did everyone else! Hey, is ANYONE doing this thing right?! Of course,
other old "standards" were played, too. Like, for example, the . M. C. A. !
Still,
not all of the dancing was fast-paced. We had a great mix of fast and slow, thanks to the expertise of Metro-DJ which
kept the whole evening together. Hey...wait a minute...is that a rugburn on Kenny's head?
