Fal (Tribal)

General Description

The Fal are primarily a tribal group living in the forest and hills around the southern end of the Mountains of the Sun. They also compose the majority of the pesantry within the Tarnheld Kingdoms, but the Fal discussed here are those who have been raised within the small secretive tribal units living as hunter-gatherers within the forest.

Physical Characteristics

Build: Thin

Coloring: The Fal have very fair skin, a marked contrast to their black curly hair and blue eyes.

Endurance: Average

Height: A fairly short race, males and females average 5'6" and 5'2" respectively.

Lifespan: 95 years

Other Factors

Demeanor: Furtive, introverted, and uncaring of any one other than the Fal. Death of a non-Fal merits no more notice than the death of any other animal - less actually as a normal animal would actually be of use.

Prejudices: All non-Fal merit notice only as probable threats to be neutralized before they act against the Fal.

Culture

Clothing & Decoration: A secretive race the tribal Fal dress in the greens, blacks, and browns which allow them to best blend into the woodlands. They obtain cloth through both raiding and trading, but furs and leather is most common.

Fears & Inabilities: The Fal both hate and fear any and all outsiders. Some traders with an established relationship with the Fal are tolerated, but even then just barely. The Tarn are hated for their position as rulers over the "civilized" Fal, but the Fal also kill all "corrupted" Fal they can as well.

Lifestyle: Introverted and secretive the Fal view the rest of the world as enemies they must defend themselves against. Anger and fear of persecution drives nearly all of their actions. They live in small tribes of no more than 60, the smaller groups being easier to hide. Numerous, hidden, underground communal living areas, (which they suggestively call "Barrows"), dot the forest they control. The tribal group is ruled by the "strongest" which, as far as the Fal are concerned, means the one most adept at secretive killing. The Fal are masters of woodland traps, poisons, and ambush.

Marriage Pattern: Monogamous, the Fal marry for life, commonly to the mate chosen for them by their parents. It is primarily a working relationship, with the strongest taboo among the Fal being intentional harm caused to one's spouse. There is little love within the Fal culture, within or without marriage. The line is traced through the mother, with the lineage of the males unrecorded and considered of no import. The female's line's strength and the success of it's children determines the worth of each woman, and determines the bride fee the grooms family must pay.

Religion: The Fal worship the Old Gods, and Druids are alone allowed free passage through their lands, but their worship is much darker and primal than is usual for followers of the Old Gods.
