Races

Herein you will soon find information regarding the mechanics used to bring to life a character from one of the races on Whent using the most excellent HARP rules system.

The main page for each racial division will list all of the Stat, Endurance, Power Point and RR modifiers for all the races within that racial type. Naturally each race will also give that information.

Each individual race will list the talents common to that race. Each individual race will also list one or more groups of adolescent skills that are gained within the cultural archtype for that culture. Note that a number of races have a number of common cultural archtypes - for instance the Kurrick (commonly known as the "Free-Cities Clansmen") are divided into the Coastal and Rural clansmen. The Coastal clansmen may choose to start as coming from a Shanty, Menial, Keeper, Merchant or Merchant Lord background. Each of these are names of the basic cultural divisions within the Coastal Kurrick and a starting character may choose to start as coming from any one of these cultural groups. The group that the character starts in determins the character's free adolescent skills and may have an impact on the character's starting talents. With the permission of the Game Master a player may play a character of one race (gaining that race's stat modifiers, initial talents, etc) that grew up in another culture (starting play with the Adolescent Skills of the second culture rather than the skills common to their racial culture). You may, therefore, have a Dwarven character that was raised within a shopkeeper's family in the Free City of Bichu. Therefore, while the character has all the natural tendancies and abilities common to dwarven-kind, he begins with all of the skills common to a Free-Cities Keeper.
