World GuideHello and welcome to the World Guide for adventures within the world of Whent. Herein you will find descriptions of the varied races, cultures and governments found throughout the world as well as magic items and places of interest, gods and cults, and much more. Much of the information presented may be used in any roleplaying system but Whent is intended to be used as a setting for adventuring under the HARP [High Adventure Role Playing] fantasy role playing system by ICE [Iron Crown Enterprises]. Any and all information that is system specific will be presented using the HARP rules - modified as described in the House Rules section of this website. I am starting with basic information on the Races of Whent Some of the races, such as the Aleem and the Free-Cities Clansmen, have fairly detailed information. Others are merely a note of the race's name. I will flesh out the latter as quickly as I can type. See the World Guides for information specific to the HARP fantasy role-playing system. Writings, Rumours & Mischief - This portion of the World Guide will consist primarily of quick, in character, glimpses into the World of Whent. Both historical and current rumors and information will be presented here, but it must be remembered that everything will be presented by various characters living withing Whent. The information they provide may be absolutely true, but it may just as likely be only what they believe to be true, or an outright lie told to further some purpose of their own. [This is an area I will be getting to fairly late in the creation of the site. I want to get the 'meat' of the site up first.] History - This portion of the World Guide will explore some of the history of Whent and how it has lead to the current state of affairs. While this area will hold as close to the truth as possible history is, as they say, written by the victors. In many cases the scholars and teachers recounting the tales herein are trusting to the ethics of the historians of ages past. Races - Whent is a diverse world. Currently this is the largest portion of this website and it lists all of the primary races found on Whent as well as many descriptions of the various races and their cultural characteristics. Governments & Cultures - This is a companion to the Races page, listing all of the major governments & cultures with short descriptions of each. Currently this is just one large page. I'll break it out and provide more detailed descriptions as time allows. Gods, Religions & Cults - Similar to the governments & cultures page this is one large page listing the major deities and giving some brief information on each. With a couple of exceptions the information given is bare bones. Again - as time allows I will flesh this out and break it out into seperate pages. House Rules - One of the larger sections this area contains information on my Professionless HARP varient, New/Revised Talents, Arcane Spell Casting, Divine Spell Casting, Training Packages specific to the world of Whent and Other House Rules. Note: if you do not have the HARP rules then most of the rules mentioned in this World Guide (particularly the House Rules section) won't mean much to you. If that is the case get your butt to their site and buy the PDF. Download it, read it, love it ... and then come back. :) Seriously though - it is great. Give their site a quick read and read through the rules system. I am pretty sure you will like it as much as I do. Moving on... The HARP [High Adventure Role Playing] fantasy role playing system rules system has only been out for a short time but it is outstanding!! I should also add that I have no connection with HARP or ICE other than having purchased darn near everything ICE has put out over the last three decades and enjoyed them immensely. The best description for HARP can probably be found on the HARP Headquarters site. I highly recommend reading the forums and getting a feel for the game. I cannot imagine anyone not liking it! There are also a number of free downloads on the site that give an excellent view of the game - including a PDF version of the character creation process. You can order rulebooks right off the site including PDF versions of the rules. Personally I grabbed both. The PDF is great when it comes to portability and keeping bound books in good shape - but nothing beats holding the actual book in my hand and letting my imagination run. Comments and suggestions are solicited and appreciated. Please send them to me at: aranmull@nycap.rr.com.
