Remember, dial-up telephone modems are an abomination. Jamming
digital data packets through analog voice circuits is the worst of both
worlds. And modems know this. Just listen to the horrible hissing and
screeching they make every time we force them to do it. -Bob Metcalfe Albany, NY

Valuable!
Matthew Carter's Georgia and Verdana are designed for superior legibility on screen. Use
Georgia for serif instead of Times New Roman, or Verdana for sans serif instead of Arial.
Use Comic Sans MS for informal content,
Arial Black and
Impact for headlines. Back to Wayne's Home Page

Typography and Design

The versions of Times New Roman and
Arial have more Unicode characters, mainly used for heavy foreign language use with Windows 95 and NT. Courier New is the standard face used for fixed spacing. (These fonts should display if you have them installed and are using a recent version of NetScape or Internet Explorer.)
Windows 95 users should investigate Microsoft's Font Properties Extension.
