Medieval
Ages
I've always been fascinated with the Middle Ages. There's just something magical about that time period. Brave knights and their code of honour. Chivalry. Fair maidens. Castle seiges. Swords and sorcery. Did I mention the maidens? Despite the harsh realities of living in this era, the Medieval times have been romanticized by many.
To get a real flavor of the whole genre, I strongly encourage you to attend a Renaissance Faire. The moment you enter, you are transported back into these wonderous and magnificent times. Everyone is dressed in period garb, speaking Olde English, and role-playing life in this era. Minstrels, medieval food, jousting.....the women...
I make it a habit of attending at least one Rennaisance Faire every season. If you're going to one, give the Rennaisance Faire in Sterling, NY a try. I haven't found better stage talent and showmanship at any of the other events I've attended. Man, it's lots of fun. And just between you and me: the girls there are amazing. Most have got their corsets and bodices on with heather in their braided hair....I'm trying to keep this "PG", so...you get the idea.
I've also always been interested in the goings on in the Society for Creative Anachronism. The SCA, as it is colloquially termed, has divided North America into medieval political divisions, from the largest sphere of control (kingdoms) to the smallest (shires). The kingdom in which I live, the East Kingdom (consisting of all of New England, eastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and the five easternmost Canadian provinces), does battle with its neighbor to the west, the Midrealm. The newly-formed small kingdom between the two, AEthelmearc (western New York, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia) hosts this collossal event, called the Pennsic War, which takes place for two weeks in August and attracts over 10,000 participants! Below is a picture of the main battlefield.
C'mon...you've got to dig this! Thousands of combatants, all armed to the hilt (pun intended) with various medieval weapons, armor and heraldric symbols. Attending this event is on my list of things to do before I die.

Here's a picture of my swords hanging on my wall. The top
two swords were forged in Spain, while the bottom sword was forged in Western
New York by Starfire
Swords.
I have added to this motif by purchasing some
medieval art prints and a 300 pound cast-iron gargoyle. (Don't
ask me what I'm going to do with it...but it's pretty cool
nonetheless.)
